Or, Now write a report for the press on the seminar A Union Beside the Padma is Under the Threat of River Erosion.
Sapon, Staff correspondent, Dhaka; 21 June 2019: Yesterday a seminar about “Save the Rivers, Save the Country” was held at Dhaka Press Club. In the seminar, all the speakers expressed their anxiety that our rivers were dying due to pollution and illegal possession by people. Lack of excavation is also responsible for the death of the rivers. Our country is a land of rivers. The health, wealth and happiness of Bangladesh rely on these rivers. The prosperity of our agriculture depends on the rivers as they make our soil fertile and are the source of irrigation in our country. Also, they are the source of communication. They have much importance in the fields of trade, commerce, and industries, because most of the cities, towns, industries, markets, bazaars, trade-centers are on the bank of rivers. Besides, it is easier and cheaper to carry the products to different places through rivers. Some of our rivers are a source of energy as well. They are used for producing electricity.
It is a chief project of producing electricity in Bangladesh. Apart from all these, the rivers have a great influence on the people. We love rivers, their water, and music. They make us emotional and sentimental. Much of our joys and happiness depend on rivers. That’s how they become the inspiration of art and literature, so the rivers are useful to us in many ways. But we are destroying the source of our livelihood and mental support. It is high time we became aware of and took proper steps to save the rivers, and thereby save the country properly for our own betterment.
